Getting Around Reigate: Trains, Roads and the Reigate Tunnel
Reigate's railway links, road connections and the historic road tunnel beneath the castle grounds.
Reigate is well connected by both rail and road, which is one of the reasons it has long been a popular commuter town.
Trains
Reigate railway station, a short walk north-west of the town centre, is on the North Downs Line between Redhill and Guildford/Reading, with regular services to Redhill for connections to London Victoria, London Bridge, Gatwick Airport and Brighton. Nearby Redhill station offers faster and more frequent mainline services.
Roads
The town sits on the A25, which runs east–west through Surrey, and the A217, which climbs Reigate Hill to junction 8 of the M25 just to the north. This gives quick access to the wider motorway network, Gatwick Airport and central London.
The Reigate Tunnel
One of Reigate's more unusual features is the Reigate road tunnel, which passes beneath the castle grounds. Opened in 1823 to allow the main road to bypass the town centre, it is often cited as one of the oldest road tunnels in England still in use. The triumphal-arch entrance on Tunnel Road is a local landmark.
Parking
There are several public car parks in and around the centre, including at Bancroft Road, and on-street pay-and-display bays. Details and charges are published by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council.
