Reigate Heath

Open heathland and common west of the town, home to the historic windmill church and one of Surrey’s oldest golf clubs.

Reigate Heath lies to the west of the town and is an area of open heathland and common, managed as a local nature reserve. It is best known as the home of Reigate Heath Windmill and the golf course that surrounds it.

## The Windmill Church

Reigate Heath Windmill is a Grade II listed post mill and is notable for housing a small chapel in its base — reputedly the only windmill in England used as a consecrated church. Services are still held there occasionally.

## Common and Golf

The heath is crossed by public footpaths and bridleways and is popular with walkers and dog owners. Reigate Heath Golf Club, one of the oldest golf clubs in Surrey, plays over the common. The heath forms part of the Greensand ridge, with sandy soils supporting heathland habitat.

## Location

Reigate Heath sits just off the A25 Flanchford Road to the west of Reigate, within easy reach of the town centre.
